710 was built in 1934 as open top streamline double deck car 247.
During WWII, all 13 top toppers were given roofs, to enable year round use.
Originally, it probably looked a lot like it’s sister car, the later 706 Princess Alice. Alice had also been enclosed, but was rebuilt as an open-topper following a collision:
This is my 2nd model rail project. I started this when I had a bit more space available than for the first one, but progress has been slow. Mainly because of the cat.
Fleetwood Street is the 3rd of my model rail projects. It was never supposed to be operational, just a roughly 3 metre long shelf to display my collection of Corgi/Atlas trams. Then I realised that I didn’t have a 3m stretch of un-interupted wall space, so knocked it down to about 1.5m
I came up with the idea of “Garwick”, a station on a mainly industrial line which still handles passenger traffic. The layout is based mainly on the long-closed Maudlands station in Preston, but with several additions which “just seemed like good ideas at the time”.
The Original Plan – it does not look like this anymore.
