Preston Dock Engine Shed – Model Project
Down on the old Preston Dock site there is an unusual little engine shed, which was built for Preston Borough Council (long before they became City) in 1985. In 1986 it won The Brick Development Association’s Structural Brickwork Award. It looks like this:

Its been about two years since our last visit to Amerton, so we went up there for the 2021 Steam Gala…
Blackpool Balloon 710
710 was built in 1934 as open top streamline double deck car 247.
During WWII, all 13 top toppers were given roofs, to enable year round use.
Originally, it probably looked a lot like it’s sister car, the later 706 Princess Alice. Alice had also been enclosed, but was rebuilt as an open-topper following a collision:
Air Farce One (and Two)
As we all know, back in June 2020, it was announced the the Prime Minister’s sort-of-private transport was to be repainted in a Union Flag colour scheme, at the cost of ÂŁ900,000. Yes, arch-clown Alexander Boris dePeffel Johnson, not content with his bus based shennanigans, decided to go for the all important aviation derision too.
Pier Passport
My new passport arrived in the post today. I will not be using is to travel to exotic foreign destinations, for this in my Pier Passport: a handy guide to the seaside piers of the UK.
The Stafford to Shrewsbury Railway Line
The Stafford–Shrewsbury line formerly ran between Shrewsbury and Stafford, from 1849 to 1966.
Those paying attention will spot that the little thing above only shows Wellington to Stafford… and for good reason – the line between Shrewsbury and Wellington is still in use, and here I’m only interested in the closed parts.
