How much damage did Reform UK really do to the Tories?

Using the data published by the House of Commons Library, specifically this spreadsheet, which shows all the electoral counts, we can see just how hard they hit.

First this to get out of the way is the list of constituencies that didn’t change hands. Thats 347 of of 650 seats.

The Tories got Leicester East from Labour, but it isn’t worth redrawing the graph just for that. The SNP took Aberbeen North and Moray East from the Tories, which wouldn’t have happened without Reform splitting the vote. There was also some shuffling about in Norn Iron, but that makes no difference.

The two Green gains from the Tories would never have happened, but the gain from Labour would be unaffected. one of the 6 Independent gains would be affected.

The 2 Plaid Cymru gains would have gone to the Tories.

The 5 Reform UK gains would have gone to the Toy Party. Obviously.

The 4 Lib Dem gains from the SNP would not have been affected.

25 of the Liberal Democrat gains from the Conservatives would not have happened but the other 35 would.

Labour took 26 seats from the SNP, so before the big finale we shall have another graph!

So, of the Labour Gains from the Conservatives, 46 would have happened anyway.  The other 136 would have gone to the Tories.

With no clear majority, we’d be back with the Tories trying to form a coalition with the Liberal Democrats.

Thanks Reform UK! You saved us!
